The principal activities of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group during the year were general banking, mortgage lending, leasing, hire purchase and general finance, international and investment banking, nominee and custodian services, executor and trustee services and life insurance and funds management activities and through ANZ National Bank Limited and the joint ventures ING Australia Limited and ING New Zealand Limited. The Group had 1,223 points of representation. As of Sep 30 2005, total assets amounted to A$293,185,000,000.
