New Study Reveals OTCQX Companies Enjoy Increased Trading, Better Perception from Investors After Joining

This month, we released an independent study by UK-based strategic advisory firm Oxford Metrica which revealed that companies that join OTCQX experience greater liquidity, narrower spreads and more market-makers six months after joining our top market.

Institutional investors also stated they have a more positive opinion of OTCQX companies due to the market’s high financial and disclosure standards, the availability of more data for analyzing investment decisions, and the voluntary openness issuers demonstrate by choosing to trade there.

The study evaluated all securities that traded on OTCQX for at least three months during the three years prior to October 31, 2015, a total of 397 primary securities with $1 trillion in combined market capitalization.

[photo]We’re proud of the tremendous community we have built — and continue to build — on our OTCQX market and are thrilled that this independent study confirms the significant advantage OTCQX can provide for qualifying U.S. and international companies.

[photo]Margaret Smith, EVP of Investor Relations and Communications at Experian plc

Experian plc (LSE: EXPN; OTCQX: EXPGY) EVP Margaret Smith talks to us about building the company’s global leadership position in consumer credit reporting and leveraging resources across products and geographies to solve complex issues for clients. Experian recently marked five years trading on OTCQX, having joined the market in 2010.

OTC Markets Group (OTCM): Experian is one of the largest credit reporting agencies, providing data and analytical tools to clients in more than 90 countries. Tell us more about your business and where you operate.

Margaret Smith: Experian is the leading global information services company providing data, software and analytics to help businesses of all sizes to manage credit risk, prevent fraud, target marketing offers and automate decision making. We employ over 17,000 people in 40 countries and maintain information on over 1 billion consumers. We're best known for our global leadership position in consumer credit reporting with credit bureaus in 17 countries.

OTCM: How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?

Ms. Smith: The breadth of Experian's portfolio of businesses and product lines enables us to create the greatest value for our customers by combining our data and tools to solve complex client issues. No single competitor has the breadth of products across as many geographies as Experian, and so when we approach problem solving as “One Experian” we create significant market differentiation and competitive distinction.

OTCM: What is your strategy for growth?

Ms. Smith: We aim to create shareholder value by consistently growing our earnings and creating attractive returns on the money we invest. To do this, we focus on key strengths — the ways that we can combine our data and tools to make the biggest difference for our customers. To sustain growth, we are committed to innovation and strive continuously to enhance our product offerings to meet customers' changing needs.

OTCM: Experian's ADRs have traded on the OTCQX market since Nov. 19, 2010. Why did you choose to upgrade to OTCQX and what has been your experience trading there?

Ms. Smith: The upgrade to OTCQX was seamless and we have seen a substantial increase in trading volumes since upgrading. We chose to upgrade because OTCQX offered a liquid trading platform for our ADRs, enabling US investors to invest directly in Experian stock via a US traded instrument, but it did not require us to list on a US exchange or register with the SEC. As a result, we continue to comply with the regulation and governance requirements of our primary London listing and are not subject to onerous duplicate regulation and governance requirements by virtue of our ADRs being traded in the US.
